As it is third year, I really want to start focusing on making polished pieces for my Portfolio. As I plan on going down a more illustrative route, for Animation this semester I want to focus on creating cinemagraphs. I don't really want to go into animation as a career so I thought, instead, adding slight movement to my concept art would help bring it to life and make it more engaging in a showreel or portfolio reel.
I think creating a series of cinemagrahs that show of my illustrative abilities is an achievable goal for this semester. Currently my illustrative abilities are quite strong and I shouldn't struggle to finish them in time to animate if I stay focused and on top of my work. It usually takes me about 4 days or so to create a very detailed illustration. However, I would like to use After Effects to create the movement in my images as it is a lot more versatile than something like Flash. It will allow me to create particle effects and parallax, 3D scenes easily. However, I have never used After Effects before so I expect this to be the thing I struggle with the most. It would be a good idea to familiarise myself with the software before I start on piecing together my final cinemagraph as if I don't do this, I predict it will become very stressful and overwhelming.
I have created this Gantt Chart as a (preliminary) visual representation of my creative process. and a way to set myself achievable goals. This way, multiple tasks and times are documented in a single, easily understood chart making it easier for myself and my lecturers to understand how far I have come in my process and what independent elements need to be achieved to complete my project.
Hopefully this Gantt chart will allow me to work more effectively as I am faced with a form of external motivation.
